I had been looking for a good teacher of Portuguese for a long time before Atena was recommended to me. Having studied Portuguese for 4 years but still struggling with conversational Portuguese, I wanted a teacher who was willing to go beyond the basics and develop my knowledge and fluency of the language,
This is exactly what I found in Vitor. His enthusiasm for languages and language teaching enables him to identify your needs and respond with appropriate teaching materials.
His has a structured approach but is ready and willing to adapt the lesson to address any issues that may arise. His ability to adpat to your style of learning was a real advantage for me.
Although Portuguese himself, he has lived a number of years in the UK and is truly bilingual. This helps him to understand the difficulties that English learners of Portuguese may have enabling him to give more in depth explanations to help students acquire the language,
His relaxed, friendly and patient approach quickly puts you at ease and ready to make the most of the lesson.
His lovely school is situated in Tunes which is in easy reach of the main roads in the Algarve and only 10 minutes walk from Tunes train station.

Today has been an errands day and it was the first time ever i've had to call up 4 different people explaining what i need only in portugues. Usually this terrifies me but today was the first time i could communciate what i wanted and understood clearly. Speaking on the phone was something i couldn't do before lessons at Atena. Atena put in a lot of effort into our lessons and homework, it's not just out of a text book. The personalisation of the course allowed me to grow my confidence and knowledge in a way that best suited me. I highly recommend Atena to anyone and everyone.

I have been undertaking A1 lessons since the beginning of the year and am enjoying the course very much as it is a structured programme and suits my learning style.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the lessons at the school had to move to personal on line sessions but nevertheless this has not hindered my progress.
